Could Apple’s Interest In VR Spell The End For Oculus?

Speaking during Apple’s quarterly earnings call, Cook hinted at Apple’s interest in the VR space. While he didn’t give too much away, his words are a ringing endorsement that even Apple sees a future in the technology.

The consumer version actually looks and feels like a final product, with the latest headset lighter and more comfortable than ever before. The headband has been revamped, with a larger panel around the back to keep it securely fitted to your head. This time around I was allowed to fit the headset myself, reducing the light leakage and ensuring that I had the most comfortable positioning.

Even though it’s a third-person adventure, it doesn’t limit the sense of immersion you feel playing with the Oculus Rift. I found myself feeling a little scared and nervous, turning around to check how close the creatures were on my tail. This was especially true near the end of the demo, when I found myself in a cosy front room with no explanation. But before I could work out what was happening, a set of tentacles started wrapping themselves around my eyes and it all went dark.360 degree video oculus

Oculus Rift contest is certainly a new way to experience a platformer as fireballs whizz past your head as you navigate the moving platforms using the Xbox One controller in your hand. It feels strange not to experience a VR title from the first-person perspective, but it gives you an idea as to how more traditional games can be conveyed in virtual reality.

We’ve been working with some of the top developers in the industry to create incredible, new made for VR games and experiences. In 2016 alone, Oculus Studios will introduce more than 20 games oculus rift that are coming exclusively to Oculus this year, including Rockband VR by Harmonix , Edge of Nowhere by Insomniac , and The Climb by Crytek We’ll be announcing additional titles soon!

The first thing to know is that none of them suck. All three give you the basic VR experience of transporting you somewhere else. There are greater and lesser degrees of this, which vary across platform and across individual titles, but it’s not as if one of them is 100 percent pure VR and the others are.. something far short of that. If any one of them were the only virtual reality that existed, we’d still be excited about this emerging frontier.360 degree video camera oculus rift

The Rift DK1 used a 7-inch (18 cm) screen with a significantly lower pixel switching time than the original prototype, reducing latency and motion blur when turning one’s head quickly. The pixel fill was also better, reducing the screen door effect and making individual pixels less noticeable. The LCD was brighter and the color depth is 24 bits per pixel.360 degree video camera oculus rift

It uses high quality lenses to allow for a wide field of view. 3 The separation of the lenses is adjustable by a dial on the bottom of the device, in order to accommodate a wide range of interpupillary distances. The same pair of lenses are used for all users, however there are multiple facial interfaces so that the user’s eyes can be positioned at a different distance. This also allows for users wearing glasses to use the Rift, as well as users with widely varying facial shapes.

Oculus’s positional tracking system, used to track the position of the user’s head as well as other VR devices, is called ‘Constellation’, 39 consisting of external infrared tracking sensors which optically track specially designed VR devices. The sensors come with a stand of a desk lamp form factor, but have standard screw holes and can be detached from this stand and mounted anywhere appropriate.

The first wave of online pre-orders will begin shipping on 28 March 2016, expecting to arrive in time for early April. This means we could probably expect a street release date of the start of April 2016. However, that could be pushed back due to the immense amount of pre-orders Oculus has recieved, quickly pushing shipping dates for later pre-orders back from 28 March to the end of June and beyond – with some customers having no idea when their headset will be shipped.

While Oculus had previously confirmed that retailers would have Rift headsets available for customers to trial ahead of release, UK retail chain GAME appears to be the first store taking pre-orders of Oculus’ headset. According to one Reddit user, their local GAME store had begun to take pre-orders for the product. However, it seems more than likely this was just a way to register interest ahead of a stock purchase instead of a concrete pre-order.oculus rift 360 degree video

The key point to remember about the Rift, and VR in general, is that this first wave is not made for everyone. As with every new piece of technology it’s going to be expensive, enter to win an Oculus Rift virtual reality headset with only passionate technologists forking out to have one. Over time the price will drop and new iterations with improved internals will hit the market at a lower price point.

Here’s The Final Oculus Rift, Coming In Early 2016

A lot has changed since the last time I talked to Palmer Luckey, the 23-year-old creator of the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset.

Partnering with Microsoft to ensure rock solid Windows 10 support, Oculus has taken the bold move of initially selling the headset without VR-specific controllers, opting instead to give everyone an Xbox One controller. This enables developers to target a single controller that everyone will have, and is the most familiar control method that developers have been working with since the very first Oculus development kit back in 2012.

If you need to replace your entire PC and have decided to buy a Rift, you may want to look at the Oculus-approved PC bundles being offered by Dell. For $1,500, you’ll get a suitably win a free Oculus Rift powerful PC and the headset itself, saving around $200 on the regular retail price, and you may even receive your bundle earlier than those who have pre-ordered just the headset.oculus rift 360 degree video

The Gallery: Call of the Starseed is a Myst-like adventure game, but looks to be a great example of how games could integrate room-scale VR experiences. They’ve developed a Blink motion system, which enables players to both walk around their Chaperone area, and teleport in an instant to further distances. The system allows for various play space sizes.

free Oculus Rift cost 599$, and if Lucky was not lying about not making money off of it(maybe little), there is no way that HTC Vive will cost less than 1000$. HTC is not doing well as a company(cell phones) and must(most likely) make profit off of Vive to continue. HTC has mentioned that Vive will be more expensive than Rift(I know that it was when Lucky said it’ll be 350$ ish but still…) and I read in multiple articles that HTC was happy with cost of Rift” and guessing more happy that it’s 599$ without the touch controller. Based on all the articles and most of comments left on those articles, HTC Vive will most likely not be under 1000$. If I had to guess, more like 1200$.

Here’s The Final Oculus Rift, Coming In Early 2016

Oculus Rift Is COMING In 2016 And You’ll Definitely Want One

I want to receive any communication from Future and its group companies enter to win an Oculus Rift virtual reality headset containing news, special offers and product information.

For those bucks, you’ll get the Oculus Rift headset, sensor, the games Lucky’s Tale and EVE: Valkyrie, cables, the Oculus Remote and an Xbox One wireless controller. The Oculus Touch controllers are not included, and won’t ship until the second half of 2016. However, if you pre-order a Rift, you’ll go to the head of the line to get a one. Don’t forget that you’ll also need a pretty solid gaming PC, which could run you anywhere between $500 and $1,000 at a bare minimum.

If you don’t have such a machine already, Oculus is offering a Rift and PC bundle for $1,499, with pre-orders starting in February. As it happens, that’s exactly the number Oculus said you’d need to get a PC and the headset. The company didn’t Oculus Rift giveaway say anything about the PC itself, but according to the minimum spec list, it’ll have at least an NVIDIA GTX 970/AMD R9 290 graphics card, Intel i5-4590 CPU, 8GB RAM, HDMI 1.3 compatible output, 3 USB 3.0 ports and Windows 7 SP1 64 or newer.

Given all the spending needed, many folks might be more tempted by Sony’s PlayStation VR , which only requires a $350 PlayStation 4 console, not an expensive PC. There’s no word on pricing for Sony’s headset, but it’s hard to imagine that it’ll cost as much as the Oculus Rift, given the price of the console. The other option is HTC’s Vive headset , which no doubt also requires a decent PC plus whatever HTC decides to charge for the headset.

Update: The early units appear to have sold out, given the fact that the ship date has already shifted from March 28th to sometime in April. I ran into problems when I tried to order one from France, despite trying several credit cards. If such mistakes are due to problems with Oculus’s system, hopefully the company will adjust the customers’ place in the order queue accordingly.360 degree video camera oculus rift360 degree video camera oculus rift
